How it started
When Jacelyn (Jacey) Lawson was four years old she was diagnosed with a Stage IV Wilm’s Tumor. The community rallied around her and her family and founded Jacey's Race, a non-profit organization that helps kids with cancer or other life-threatening illnesses. Jacey fought her second cancer battle in 2018 but we are happy to report that she is on the other side and doing well. Now Jacey, a college graduate, and her family continue to run the race and help other kids like Jacey.
Jacey’s Race is a community event specifically to help local families with children currently being treated for cancer, life-threatening or severe illness. Jacey’s Race is an in-person and virtual 5K running race for persons of all ages. Jacey’s Race is free for children 12 and under! The race is staffed entirely by non-paid volunteers. Via sponsorship and race entry fees, money will be raised to go primarily to families of children with cancer, severe or life-threatening illness, with gifts to Community Cancer Services and the Pediatric Department at Bonner General Health in Sandpoint.
